Samuel V. Stevens, 84, of Zanesville, died at 5:45 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2011 at his residence. He was born August 3, 1927, in Zanesville, a son of the late Lewis and Edith Male Stevens. He was the co-owner of Stevens Brothers Concrete Contracting. He was a member of the Church of God at God's Acres in Newark and was a United States Army World War II Veteran. Surviving are four daughters, Linda (Eldon) Stevens, Beth Stevens and Kimberly (Toni) Anderson, all of Zanesville and Aranya (Albert) Jamison McCoy of Columbus; two sons, Vernon (Rhonda) Stevens and Martin Stevens, both of Zanesville; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a sister, Iva L. Mayle of Zanesville; caregiver, Shelly Harris of Zanesville; and his beloved dog, Marley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Velma M. Stevens, who died February 21, 2005; five brothers; and eight sisters. Friends and family may call from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, August 7, 2011 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 8, 2011 at the funeral home with Pastor Roger Decker officiating. Samuel will be laid to rest next to his wife, Velma, at Woodlawn Cemetery. The United States Army in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post #1058 will hold full military honors at the gravesite.
