Sara R. Levy passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2006 at the age of 97. Sara was the youngest of 3 children born to Leo and Clara Levy in Floral Park, NY on January 22, 1909. Until 1987 Sara lived her entire life in Floral Park residing most of those years in a building at 76 South Tyson Avenue that was not only her residence but the home of Quality Market, the butcher business her father had started in 1904. Her brother Alfred would later join their father and run this business for over 45 years. Sara received both a bachelor's (1934) and a master's (1946) degree in education from New York University. At the age of 20 Sara began teaching and in 1971 she retired from teaching while at Floral Park Memorial High School after a career of over 42 years. After leaving Floral Park, Sara lived a few years a in Del Ray Beach, FL. And Youngstown, OH. before making Zanesville, OH. Her final home. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred Levy, sister Brunette Bamberger, and niece Janice Ballas. She is survived by her niece, Phyllis (Donald) Katz of Columbus, OH., Janice's husband, Leonard (Bea) Ballas of Zanesville, OH. and seven grandnieces and nephew. who live in Ohio, Georgia, and Israel. At Sara's request, no calling hours will be observed. A private service will be held Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Mount Neboh Cemetery in Glendale, NY. where Sara will be buried next to her parents. In her life, Sara had many , many friends. As a teacher, Sara had an amazing influence on the lives of hundreds of children. She was loved by the family she left behind.
