Stella M. Graves, 104, a resident of the Helen Purcell Home since September 26, 1978, died at 9:30 p.m. December 18, 2005 at the Helen Purcell Home. She was born January 13, 1901 in Zanesville the daughter of the late Cary E. & Hettie A. Hogate Norris. She married Carl Graves on October 17, 1923 at the Market Street Baptist Church of which she was the oldest living member. They lived in the Zanesville and Dresden areas until Mr. Graves death in 1967. Mrs. Graves was an active member of the Market Street Baptist Church since 1924, also a member of the Pioneer Historical Society and the Ladies Board of the Mathews House Museum, The Philathea Sunday School class and the Esther Circle of the church she attended, the Zanesville Chapter # 52 of the Order of Eastern Star and the Eureka Club of the Dresden area. Surviving are many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Graves, and seven brothers, Cary E., Ernest Carey, Clark, Howard, Basil Sr., Cecil and Albert Norris, two sisters, Ruth Norris and Ethel Dickson. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 22, 2005 with Rev. Charles Norris officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Zanesville.
