Thomas E. Catlett, 66, of Zanesville, died at 5:35 A.M. Thursday, November 22, 2012 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. Thomas was born December 7, 1945 in Zanesville a son of the late Everett and Opal Matthews Catlett. Tom was a graduate of Zanesville High School, Class of 1964. His passion in life was antiques and Street Rods, where he was a representative for Good Guys Rod and Custom Association. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, who served as Sgt. First Class in Vietnam for three tours, where he earned the Purple Heart,the Combat Infantry Badge, Master Parachutist, the Army Commendation Medal and the Meritorious Service Medal. He served his country as a U.S. Army Ranger serving in the 82nd and the 173rd Airborne Brigade and then became a Drill Sergeant. Thomas retired from the State of Ohio, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services as a Supervisor. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW George Selsam Post 1058. Surviving are a brother, Ted (Bonnie) Catlett of Zanesville; a niece, Kellie (Jared) Stutes of Duncan Falls; two great-nephews, Case and Coen Stutes both of Duncan Falls; a brother-in-law, Mike (Carol) Miller of Nashport; two Golden Retrievers, Sam and Isabella; special friends, Jim Hildenbrand of Zanesville and Larry Hampton of Columbus; loving cousins and his Street Rod Family. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Muriel, who died June 6, 2003. Friends and family may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville where the funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012 with Rev. Joy French officiating. Thomas will be laid to rest next to his wife, Muriel at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery, Zanesville where the United States Army in conjunction with VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold full military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial contribution may be made to Nationwide Children's Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 16810, Columbus, OH 43216-6810 or to Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Central Ohio Chapter, 2225 Citygate Drive Suite E, Columbus, OH, 43219.
