Vernon R. Smith, 61, of Zanesville, passed away November 25, 2015, at his home. He was born August 10, 1954, in Zanesville, a son of Catherine Veno Smith of Zanesville and the late Vernon L. Smith. He served in the United States Air Force from 1977-1980. Upon returning from duty, he pursued his love of automotives as a mechanic, and became masterful in the trade. Later in life, he continued to work as a mechanic from his own garage. His hobbies included working on John Deer Tractors, and watching NASCAR. He will be remembered by those close to him as the person you called when you needed help. His acts of kindness included mowing the yards of family and neighbors, clearing snow in the cul-de-sac where he lived, and fixing family vehicles at no cost. In addition to his mother Catherine, he is survived by a brother Randy (Jeanne) Smith of Roseville; three sisters, Cindy Tracey of Zanesville, Denise (Dave) Dutro of Adamsville and Mary (Brian) Gibson of Zanesville; nieces and nephews; and two children. In honor of his wishes, no calling hours or services will be held. A dignified cremation has taken place and arrangements were entrusted to the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE.
