Walter 'Deke' E. Miedel

Walter E. Deke Miedel, Jr., 71, of Zanesville, died at 07:40 A.M. on Friday, September 9, 2016, at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House, Zanesville. He was born September 12, 1944 in Zanesville, son of Walter E. Sr. and Kathleen Waltz Miedel. Deke retired as a Police Sergeant with the Zanesville Police Department having served the city for nearly thirty years. He was a life member and past District Director of the Narcotics Association of Regional Coordinating Officers (NARCO) and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5. Deke was an avid model car builder and competitor having won many awards and having many of his model cars featured in national model magazines. He was a member and past president of the Buckeye Scale Auto Club (BSCA) in Columbus, Ohio and a member of the Zanesville Model Club. Deke enjoyed working on his yard and gardens, and spending time with his wife and animals. He is survived by his wife and best friend Linda K. Miedel; his cats Sammie, Tiny, and Zoie of the home; a son Edward Miedel III of Florida; two grandsons, Damien (Nicole) Miedel of Florida, and Shaun Miedel of Florida; one great-granddaughter, Olivia Monet Miedel; and one great-grandson Elam Miedel. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Susie Miedel. Friends and family may call from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. on Monday, September 12, 2016 at the BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE where funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, September 13, 2016, with Rev Alton B. Dillard officiating. He will be laid to rest at Zanesville Memorial Park, Zanesville. FOP Lodge #5 will hold services at 8:00 P.M. Monday at the Funeral Home.
