Wayne E. Gortner

Wayne E. Gortner, 80, of Zanesville, went to Heaven at 8:24 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born March 2, 1929, in Red Haw, in Ashland County, Ohio, a son of the late Frank and Ethel Kline Gortner. He managed the Moore's Store in Zanesville for 26 years until they went out of business, then moved to Florida where he managed Zenoll's Furniture Store in Ft. Lauderdale. He moved back to Zanesville in 1994 and worked at Dutro Ford for 15 years. Wayne enjoyed sales and working with the public. He was a member of the First Christian Church and attended the First Church of the Nazarene. Surviving are his wife, Joy Stotts Fleming Gortner, whom he married June 13, 2004, of the home; two step sons, Matt (Tennille) Fleming and Michael Fleming, both of Zanesville; two daughters, Joyce (Dennie) Haddox and Jeri (John) Power, both of Zanesville; 11 grandchildren, D. Michael (Kerry) Haddox, Martin (Thalia) Haddox, Mindy (Greg) Waite, Michelle (Lowell) Body, Marcie (John) Fondale, Pam (Rick) McFerren, Tam (Kent) Ramsey, Shawn (April) Power, Amy (Brian) Thornton, Trent Fleming, and Kyleigh Fleming; 23 great grandchildren, Korey, Kodey, Kade, Kallen, Andrew, Alaina, Coulton, Ali, Angelo Gus, Evangeline Marie, Cassi, Caleb, Caiti, Jay, Mitch, Cece, Heather, Jocelyn, Devin, Allissa, Drew, Tyler, and Chase; a special sister-in-law, Pauline Gortner of Ashland, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Mary Gortner of Orrville, Ohio; five nephews, Russell (Mary Ellen) Gortner of Medina, Ohio and Larry (Joanne) Gortner of Wooster, Ohio, Harold (Sylvia) Gortner of South Carolina, Don (Gisela) Gortner of Colorado and James (Susan) Gortner of Indiana; and a niece, Wilma Ogle of Indiana. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Gortner; and four brothers, the Rev. Carl, Russell, the Rev. Clayton and Robert Gortner. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 21, 2009 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville and one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 22, 2009 at the First Christian Church, 3000 Dresden Road, Zanesville with the Rev. Dawn Remster, Rev. Steve Dupler and Dr. Herbert Hicks officiating. Burial will follow at a later date at Duncan Falls Cemetery.
