William J. Benson

William J. (Buzz) Benson passed away, August 3, 2017, in his sleep, peacefully at his farm in North Zanesville. Benson was an industrial engineer and the local plant manager of Brockway Glass. After his retirement from Brockway/Owens-Illinois, he began a second career with six years in marketing and management at National Gas and Oil. A World War 2 Navy Veteran, Benson was very involved in the community, having served on the Good Samaritan Medical Center Board, the Good Samaritan Foundation Board, as well as the Genesis Foundation board. He also was an active member of Zanesville's Gideon Camp and a former member of Zanesville Kiwanis, served for a number of years on the board of Muskingum Valley Boy Scouts of America, member of American Legion Post 29 and was an elder at the Zanesville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Buzz is survived by Beverly, his wife of 68 years; a daughter, Christine Tice of Melbourne Florida; three sons, Jeffrey of Columbia, South Carolina, John of Zanesville, and Jay of Dresden. Plus 4 nieces, 8 nephews, 16 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Bolin Dierkes Funeral Home will be handling the arrangements. At Buzz's request there will be no viewing and funeral, but there will be a memorial service held at a later date at Zanesville's Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions can be made to 'Short Term Mission Teams' c/o Zanesville Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, 545 Richey Road, Zanesville Ohio 43701.
