William H. Crippen, 78, of Norwich, died at 8:40 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2004 at Select Specialty Hospital, Zanesville. He was born February 26, 1926 in Athens Co., Ohio a son of the late Harry William and Goldie Gertrude Brooks Crippen. He retired in 1990 as a custodian for Zanesville City Schools, was a World War II Navy veteran, lifetime member of VFW George Selsam Post 1058 and American Legion. Surviving are his wife, Lena M. Chaney Crippen, whom he married March 2, 1946 of the home, two sons, Harry William ( Kay ) Crippen of New Concord and Jerry Andrew ( Darlene ) Crippen of Cambridge, four daughters, Mary Elaine Parmer of Hopewell, Sherry Ellen ( Robert ) Roberts of Norwich, Terry Mae ( David Klies and Billie Jean Crippen both of Zanesville, fourteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. He was preceded in death besides his parents, two granddaughters, Ashley Parmer and Tammy Crippen, seven sisters, Ireta Gibson, Mary Gheen, Goldie Crippen, Margie Lightizer, Lucille Younkin, Ruby McMahon and Virginia Crippen. The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2004 at Bolin Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m.Friday, May 28, 2004 at the funeral home with Rev. Larry D. Farris officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, New Concord.VFW George Selsam Post 1058 will hold military rites at the grave.
