William F. Mangels Jr.

William Frederick Mangels Jr., 60, of Zanesville, formerly of Elmont, New York, died at 6:43 p.m. Saturday, February 2, 2008 at Genesis Hospice-Morrison House. He was born January 24, 1948, Detroit, Michigan, a son of William F. Mangels and the late Alberta Jacoby Mangels. William attended Pratt University and graduated from Ohio University. He was a marketing analyst and was presently employed with Capital Wholesale and was also self-employed. He was previously employed with Federated Department Stores, Willouby-Peerless Camera and Bailey Drug. He was a former Secretary of the National Carousel Association, was a secretary for the Pharmacy Foundation of Ohio and the Academy of Pharmacy of Central Ohio. He was a member of the American Carousel Society, National Amusement Park Historical Association, Ohio Pharmacists Association, the Academy of Pharmacy of Central Ohio and of the Central Ohio Society of Health System Pharmacists. He was an Eagle Scout and Lutheran by Faith. William's hobbies included, Broadway Theater, Irish Music, Antiques, Photography, Nature, Carousel Preservation and Computer Technology. William Mangels Jr. was the great grandson of William Mangels who held many patents on carousel construction. One of the family carousels is located at the Columbus Zoo. Surviving are his father, William F. (Dorthea) Mangels, of Daytona, Beach, Florida; his wife, Georgiana Hayes Mangels, whom he married August 17, 1974, of the home; a sister, Barbara Mangels of North Babylon, New York; two brothers, John of Poughkeepsie, New York and Tom of West Babylon, New York and two nephews, Keith Mangels of Valley Stream, New York and Justin Mangels of Boston, Massachusetts. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 7, 2008 at the funeral home with Dr. Richard Boyer officiating. Burial will follow at Irville Cemetery, Nashport. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Central Region Office-MUSK, 870 Michigan Avenue, Columbus, Ohio, 43215.
