William I. Morrison, 91, of Zanesville, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, September 20, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 13, 1921 in Zanesville, a son of the late Isaiah D. and Martha Kernan Morrison. Bill retired from the Zanesville Fire Department after 31 years of service, was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, a World War II Navy Veteran, member of the VFW George Selsam Post 1058, Eagles Lodge # 302, and American Legion Post 29. For more than 50 years, he was well known for training, owning and driving Standard Bred Harness Racing Horses at the Muskingum Co. Fairgrounds and other area race tracks. Bill was a member of the U.S. Trotting Association and former member of the Ohio State Racing Association. Surviving are two sons, Lon I. (Deborah) Morrison Sr. of Zanesville, and Delvin R. Morrison of Melbourne, FL; a grandson, Lon "Ike" Morrison Jr. of Zanesville. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Russell Morrison, whom he married May 15, 1954 and who died August 16, 2008; and a brother, Donald E. Morrison. Friends and family may call 2-5 p.m. Sunday, September 23, 2012 at Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Avenue, Zanesville, where funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, September 24, 2012 with Father Stephen Hayes O.P. officiating. Bill will be laid to rest beside his beloved Audrey at Zanesville Memorial Park with full Military Honors being conducted by the United States Navy in conjunction with the VFW George Selsam Post 1058.
