William R. "Bill" Newsom, 67, of Zanesville, died at 5:50 p.m. Monday, July 19, 2010 at the Genesis Extended Care & Rehab Center. He was born April 28, 1943, in Bellevue, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Roland and Bessie Louise Lent Newsom. He retired after 30 years of service as a factory worker for Lucent Technologies. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Lafayette Lodge #79 F&AM where he was presently serving as Tyler and Amrou Grotto #45. He was a 32 Mason and a United States Army Vietnam Veteran. Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Karen Bailey Newsom of the home, whom he married May 17, 1966; two sisters, Jane Clapper of Zanesville and Sandy (Danny) Baker of Dresden; two brothers, Harold "Louie" (Martha) Newsom and Charles (Connie) Newsom, both of Zanesville; 10 nieces and nephews; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harold and Dorothy Bailey of Zanesville; and a brother-in-law, Gary (Gloria) Bailey of Dresden. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home,1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville with Pastor Nancy Amos officiating. Masonic Lodge services will be held at 9:45 a.m. Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery. VFW George Selsam Post #1058 in conjunction with the United States Army will hold full military rites at the graveside.
