William E. Schmidt

November 7, 1926 — June 5, 2008

William E. Schmidt, 81, of Zanesville, died at 4:12 p.m. Thursday, June 5, 2008 at Genesis Good Samaritan Hospital. He was born November 7, 1926, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of the late Grace Fogle Schmidt. He was a 1950 graduate of The Ohio State University where he earned his degree in Marketing and was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity. He was a member of Coburn United Methodist Church where he served on the Finance Board and VEP Sunday School. He was Chairman of The United Way, President and Chief Operating Officer of Bailey Drug Company, President of the National Wholesale Druggists' Association, Chairman of the Operating Levy for Zanesville City Schools in 1977, Group Vice President of Cardinal Health, was a member of the Bethesda Administrative Board and of the Druggists' Service Council. He was a past president of the Zanesville Band Boosters, Zanesville Devilette Boosters, Associated Druggists, Ohio Drug Travelers, Rotary and the Rambo Health Center Board. He was a World War II Navy Veteran and enjoyed fishing, boating, Ohio State Sports and traveling. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Janice Householder Schmidt, whom he married March 17, 1956 of the home; a son, Rick (Linda) Schmidt of Zanesville; two daughters, Lisa (Rick) Miller of Zanesville and Nancy (Kevin) Robison of McConnelsville; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Shawn and Cody Miller, Kristen, Andrew and Emily Schmidt and Christopher Robison Besides his mother, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert James Schmidt. Friends may call 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2008 at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., Zanesville. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2008 at the funeral home with the Dr. Dennis J. Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.
